Former Black Stars boss Akwesi Appiah celebrating 63th birthday as Asante Kotoko technical director

Asante Kotoko have wished their technical director Akwesi Appiah happy birthday on Twitter on his 63th birthday while in preseason at Nusta Beposo as revitalization commenced.

The former Black Stars boss is working as a technical director at Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko and has received 63th birthday message from his new club.

The Ghana Premier League side have struggled in African club football for decades now suffering from plethora of issues poor administration, player quality, financial challenges, player transfer and supporters commitment.

The Kumasi club enjoyed a triumph in the domestic scene last two seasons winning the Ghana Premier League but lost out the ultimate to new champions Medeama Sporting Club.

Kotoko exited the CAF Champions League at the first round last season to continue their curse in African club football following penalty shootout loss to Burkina side RC Kadiogo.

New winds are blowing in the camp of the Ghanaian giants in revitalization mission launched by club’s Life Patron and Owner Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, in mission effort seeing club legends being draw closer to Kotoko than before.

In efforts to achieve mission, former Black Stars boss Akwesi Appiah has been appointed the technical director of his former club, having Appiah assisted Kotoko to win the 1983 CAF Champions League against Al Ahly.

Against Al Ahly, Appiah started in both legs in Cairo and Kumasi that the likes of John Smith Bannerman, Ahmed Rockson, Opoku Nti, Joe Tex, Addae Kyenkyehene, Seth Ampadu, Ebo Mends, Yahaya Kassum, Joe Carr, Ernest Apau, Papa Arko also featured.

Most of Appiah’s winning teammates have died but the former Black Stars manager leaves to enjoy his 64th birthday as Asante Kotoko wish him happy birthday Wednesday 9th August, 2023 on their Twitter handle.

After being appointed the technical directed of Kotoko, Akwesi Appiah was tasked to find a new head coach for Asante Kotoko as replacement for Seydou Zerbo- sacked in the course of last season. Appiah named former Kotoko boss Prosper Narteh Ogum and the 45-year old was reappointed as head coach of the Porcupine Warriors.

Ogum has been unveiled Monday to complete his return after almost a year of a departure due to resignation.

Kotoko have resumed preseason training at Nsuta Beposo on Tuesday. Majority of first team players have been part of preseason and new signings Kalo Ouattara, Henry Ansu and Yahaya Dawuni are expected to join their new teammates today or tomorrow.
