Franck Evina’s strike earn Cameroon their first Africa U-23 Nation Cup win after a slim 1-0 victory over Mali

Cameroon have recorded their first win in Africa U-23 Nations Cup after beating Mali 1-0 in their second group game at Cairo International Stadium.

This happens to be the first time Cameroon are making an appearance in the tournament, but have managed to go unbeaten in their first two games of the competition after drawing against Ghana three days ago and today, beating Mali.

There were moments of brilliance for both teams but it was Mali who were the better side throughout the game and even took the lead as Mali striker run through Cameroon defense to slut home a nice through ball, but Mali’s goal was disallowed over an offside decision.

Rigobert Son’s side took the lead on the 76’ minute after Mali failed to clear their lines resulting from a free kick down the right flank. Bayern Munich’s Franck Evina who was unmarked from his position waste no minutes to stroke a one-time shot past Mali’s goalkeeper Youssef Koita to give Cameroon the lead.

Cameroon are now leading group A with four points from two game, but have to wait Egypt’s game against Ghana later today. Mali are out of the tournament but will wait and play Ghana in the last group matches on Thursday.

Cameroon would play as away side to Egypt on Thursday for the last hurdle in group A of the Africa U-23 Nations Cup.
