Iaaac Oppong second half strike extends Kotoko lead on Ghana Premier League table as Porcupine Warriors make it three in row

Teenager Isaac Oppong scored in the second half in unimpressive Kotoko performance to hand the GPL leaders their third consecutive victory of the season.

The victory extends Kotoko’s lead on the Ghana Premier League table to 9 points three more above King Faisal who play their game on Sunday against Ash Gold.

Kotoko opened a strong start to the season having come from a goal down to beat Dreams FC 3-1 at Accra before landing into a 2-0 win against Bechem United in Matchday 2.

All previous two goals have been heavily influenced by Isaac Oppong even in the phase of his substitution exposure.

The winger provided two assists in opening day and scored a stunner last month before earning a penalty for Kotoko’s first goal against Bechem United at Baba Yara last Sunday.

Isaac Oppong was handed his first start at Dun’s Park at Bibiani falling into one of the four changes introduced by Prosper Narteh Ogum from victory against Bechem United.

Maxwell Agyemang, Andrew Kwadwo Appau, Richard Boadu and Oppong replaced Yusif Mubarik and Abdul Ganiyu in central defense respectively whiles the last two took positions of Stephen Amankona and Joseph Amoako.

The game failed to give the beautiful aspect as both clubs struggled to keep the ball. Kotoko showed the attempt to enjoy possession but the turf seemed a destruction.

That was a big worry for Kotoko as players look largish but the likes of Mudasiru Salifu and Fabio Gama flourished. Gold Stars benefited from poor state of the pitch and hold Kotoko to a first half goalless draw.

With improved performance in the second half, Kotoko broke the deadlock emanating from a one-two play between Isaac Oppong and Patrick Asmah on the left edge.

Oppong was the latest to curl a beautiful ball to the far side. Asmah who entered the box was brought down as his back diverted the ball to Oppong who struck with a one-time  finish to bottom right corner.

Kotoko will play against Eleven Wonders next week.
