Match Report: ES Tunis 2-1 Teungueth more about the game Caf Champions League 2020-2021

Esperance de Tunis were nearly handed a deck of defeat in open game to the group stages of the Caf Champions League but pulled string of impressive displays to come back for all three points at home.

The away side struck first with Sillah denting home hopes before the 34’ minute mark but ES Tunis fought back to a 2-1 win through Khenissi and Abdul-Khalid.

Much is not known about Teungueth in continental football who was founded only in 2013 but the side is proving to be a good side in this Caf Champions League episode after eliminating former title winners Raja Club Athletic and nearly sink another former champions ES Tunis beneath of the ground in group B first game.

The first half had ended 1-1 with the Tunisian giants being the better side but there was sense of passion and urgency on part of Teungueth who looked more of a strategic side than Esperance.

That was testified from the starting lineups when Moïne Chaâbani who has being bossing at Stade Olympique de Radès since October 2018 named 4-3-3 formation as his Senegalese counter Youssoupha Dabo opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation.

Both teams looked somehow comfortable in their own system as they missed a couple of good chances inside the first 30 minutes. However, three minutes then after, Gibril Sillah broke the deadlock with the away side leading the game in Rades.

ES Tunis poured forward and drew level when Yassine Khenissi converted a first half stoppage time penalty.

Appearing to be a good away-side, Teungueth have not lost an away game in the Caf Champions League so far and they seem to have the formula for doing that and for not conceding many goals away from home either.

They have conceded only twice including today’s strike from Khenissi. Teungueth were on verge of recording another vital away draw defended well to prevent Esperance from grabbing a second goal until the 73’ minute as Basit Abdul Khalid scored the match winner for a relief ES Tunis.

This victory keeps Eperance on top of Group D after Friday’s clash between Zamalek and MC Alger at Cairo International ended goalless draw.
