Asante Kotoko touched down in Kumasi after defeating RC Kadiogo in Benin
The Ghana Premier League champions have touched down in their home grounds Kumasi after beating Burkina Faso side RC Kadiogo in the Caf Champions League last Monday in Benin.
Isaac Oppong got it late for the 2-time African champions at the Friendship Stadium on Monday. The return leg will take place in Kumasi this Sunday. The team have touched down in the Garden City of Ghana Wednesday afternoon a day after arriving in the capital.
The team will rest for the rest of the day and begin preparations for the return leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Training sessions will reportedly be held at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday off the team’s training ground Adako Jachie Training Complex that has been put under better condition ahead of the Caf Champions League.
The Reds have failed to make significant progress in the Caf Champions League since 2006. All their attempts have never seen them entering into the group stages of the African top flight competition.

Kotoko’s hopes for group stages football is very high this season and looking at their line of voyage, the Ghanaian side could reach the money zone of the Caf Champions League, and it will become the first time in 16 years.
After seemingly eliminating RC Kadiogo, Asante Kotoko will face either Gaborone United and AS Vita Club from Dr. Congo in the last round to the group stage finals. Gaborone United lead the Dr. Congo opponents 1-0 from the first leg in Botswana and will play for the good results in the return leg in Kinshasa.
In 2006, Asante Kotoko crushed out Aigle Royal de la Menoua, Clube Ferroviário de Maputo and USCA Foot in the preliminary rounds before placing only third to CS Sfaxien and Al Ahly. Kotoko accumulated 7 points 4 more points below second place Al Ahly after 6 games in Group A.
