Cape Coast Stadium could still host Ghana against Nigeria in World Cup playoff, say NSA

The Spokesperson of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Charles Amofah has stated with so much confidence that, the Cape Coast Stadium is currently in a very good shape and will be ready very soon to host the game between Ghana and Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Initially, pictures of the venue especially the pitch, popped up on social in a very tatted fashion after the country’s 65th Independence anniversary was honoured at the same venue.

The initial poor state of the stadium, brought about lots of speculations in the local media with majority stating the game could be moved to Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Also it was reported that, Ghana is most likely to play the first leg at a neutral ground which could be Benin or Morocco if its match center doesn’t meet FIFA’s standard for game day.
In an interview with Happy FM in Accra, NSA PRO Charles Amofah disclosed the facility is now in a very good condition and will go on to host the game. He said;
“We (NSA) are ready for the game to be hosted at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. The Sports Minister is even at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium to inspect the facility.”
“Our duty as the handlers of the stadium is to ensure the pitch is ready for the game. The pitch is in good condition and we can even play a game today.
“We want to get the best of the pitch to ensure we organize a very successful game at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.”
“Our grounds men are at the venue and they are working to restore the pitch to the best of shape.” He concluded

The Black Stars will play on home soil in the first leg on March 25, 2022 and will travel to Abuja for the return encounter in four days time.

Nigeria have poor memories of the potential World Cup playoff venue after being thrashed 4-1 in 2017 WAFU tournament final by Ghana.
