Tariq Lamptey returns to training at Brighton ahead Ghana AFCON games against Angola

Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has resumed individual training at Brighton’s training grounds, after sustaining a knock in a 4-0 win over West Ham United on March 4.

The 22-year-old underwent a series of scans supervised by the Brighton medical team to aid his quick recovery.

Despite being named in Roberto De Zerbi’s starting eleven for the massive win over West Ham United, Lamptey came off after just 16 minutes with a supposed knee problem.

However, it is unclear if he will be listed in Brighton and Hove Albion’s match-day squad for their Premier League game against Crystal Palace tomorrow, after missing their 2-2 away draw with Leeds United last Saturday.

Ghana’s new coach, Chris Hughton, has included the exciting right-back in his 25-man squad for this month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Angola.

The Black Stars will host the Palancras Negras of Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 23, before travelling to Luanda on March 27 for the second leg tie.

Ghana is joint top at Group E after picking 4 points in first two games. Black Stars got off their campaign with 3-0 victory over Madagascar before drawing 1-1 against Central Africa Republic.

Angola have 4 points as they enter into a tricky clash with Ghana. The Black Stars will be boosted by the return of Lamptey who completed his switch to Ghana ahead of 202w FIFA World Cup.
