Milovan Rajevac Black Stars return imminent as GFA set to announce Serbian as new head coach

The Ghana Football Association could announce the re-appointment of Milovan Rajevac in next few hours according to reports.

The West African country are in hunt for a new coach after departing ways with Charles Kwablan Akonnor last Monday.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect.

“This follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.

“The Executive Council after considering the two reports have decided to terminate its relationship with the Head Coach C. K Akonnor and the two Assistants”, the GFA announced on their official website.

Akonnor was appointed as replacement for compatriot Kwesi Appiah in January 2020 following the poor performance of Appiah.

Akonnor guided Ghana to qualify for next Afcon in Cameroon 2022 but has struggled in World Cup qualifiers.

The former captain beat Ethiopia in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers opener in unconvincing display at the Cape Coast Stadium last month before suffering a 1-0 defeat in the hands of South Africa.

The aftermath of Ghana’s defeat to Bafana Bafana was the sack of Akonnor and Ghana have been monitoring a number of coaches to replace Akonnor.

The Ghana Football Association tasked three member committee; Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida, and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.

It’s understood that Kwesi Appiah could return to his former posts while Tanko Mohammed and Otto Addo have all been linked with the Black Stars managerial position.

A new revelation has been made on Tuesday about who could potentially take the Black Stars coaching job according media reports.

Asaase Sports claimed that Milovan Rajevac is one of three coaches; Otto Addo and George Boateng shortlisted for the vacant managerial job as an update has been issued by Peace FM on Wednesday.

The source claims that the former Ghana boss is reportedly close to completing a return to Black after the committee settling on the Serbian International.

The GFA could announce the appointment of Milo in few hours claimed by Peace FM Mid-day News.

The Serbian International has previously coached the Black Stars in 2008 and finished as runner-up at the Cup of Nations in 2010 and narrowly missed out on a semi-final place at the 2010 World Cup to Uruguay.

Rajevac left the Ghana job in September 2008 and subsequently joined Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia.

He would later leave that job and take up the Qatari job in 2011. He has since coached Slovenia’s Ruda Velenje, the Algerian National team, and Thailand. He was Thailand coach between 2017 and 2019.
