AFCON U-23: Ivory Coast 1-0 Zambia, Black Meteors face Ivory Coast in semi-finals of Africa U-23 Nations Cup
Ivory Coast beat Zambia 1-0 in their last group game to set a titanic U-23 AFCON Semi-final clash against Ghana on Tuesday.
The Black Meteors of Ghana would welcome Ivory Coast to the Semi-finals of the Africa U-23 Nations Cup on Tuesday afternoon. Ghana climbed a huge mountain in group A only to accumulate 4 point from a possible of 9.
Meteors drew their first game against Cameroon, lost to Egypt in match day 2 before thrashing Mali in the last group games to go second place in group A.
Ivory Coast on the other hand needed a victory in their last group game against Zambia on Friday evening to top group B, haven beaten defending champions Nigeria in their first group game before suffering a shocker of a defeat to South Africa in match day 2 of the tournament.
With the first placed team taking on the second placed team in the other group according to the rules of the tournament, Ghana who placed second in group A will now face group B leaders Ivory Coast on Tuesday in Cairo International Stadium.
Both Ghana and Ivory Coast secured their qualification to the Semi-finals of the tournament in their last group games. Whiles Kwabena Owusu’s second half strikes defeated Mali in El Salam Yesterday, Ivory Coast’s lone goal against Zambia through Kouadio-Yves Dabila was enough to give Tarek’s side all three points in the evening.
The defender, though unmarked, rose above Zambia’s defense to head home a powerful cross from the left flank on the 61’ minute.
Ivory Coast topped group A with six points whiles South Africa claimed the second place, who in the other group game hold Nigeria to a goalless draw.
