Young Pharaohs to test a tricky Semi-final tie against South Africa in U-23 AFCON

Egypt U-23 will engage South Africa in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa U-23 Nations Cup on Tuesday evening at Cairo International Stadium.

Egypt topped group A with a hundred percent record after beating whipping boys Mali 1-0 in the opener, Ghana 3-2 and defeating Cameroon 2-1 in their last group game.

South Africa emerged as the second place team in group B after holding Nigeria to a goalless draw in their last group game on Friday evening. South Africa accumulated 5 points from their three group games, and departures Nigeria and Zambia recorded 4 points and 1 point in group B respectively.

By this virtue, the young Pharaohs will come face-to-face against young Bafana Bafana this coming Tuesday, to contest for a place in the final of the Africa U-23 Nations Cup.

Egypt would be hoping to seek a sweet revenge against South Africa after the Egyptians suffered a 1-0 shocking loss to South Africa in the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

The winners of the semi-final games will secure their progress to next year’s Olympic Games while the losers will involve a decisive third-place playoff, which will determine Africa’s last representative at the Tokyo Games.
