Al Merrikh consider Tunisia or Algeria for hosting Zamalek in Caf Champions League

Al Merrikh will not be able to host Zamalek Sporting Club at Al Merrikh in the CAF Champions League fixture. Tunisia or Algeria could be considered home grounds for hosting Zamalek in the CAF Champions League.

The African Champions League group stage draw sees the Sudanese side meet the Egyptian giants with their first clash coming up on 17th February but the Sudan stadium may not be capable of hosting that game.

Al Merrikh board member Haytham Kabo has revealed that it might be difficult for the club’s stadium to host the game against Zamalek in CAF Champions League group stage.

Al Merrikh face Zamalek, Espérance de Tunis, and Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad in Group D as they welcome Zamalek for matchday 2 clash but renovations may halt Al Merrikh Stadium’s chances.

“Renovations are currently taking place at Al Merrikh Stadium which might not be ready to host our games in the CAF Champions League. We will make our decision by the end of January,” Haytham Kabo spoke to Egyptian TV channel “Al Hayah”.

“There are plenty of options but if the stadium is not ready, we might play against Zamalek in Tunisia or Algeria.”

Al Merrikh played their CAF Champions League group stage games last season at Al-Salam WE Stadium in Egypt since their ground violated CAF’s standards.

The Sudanese club is also considering Cairo as an option for some home games this season.

“Cairo might be the best choice against Esperance de Tunis and CR Belouizdad,” Haytham Kabo concluded.

Al Merrikh, 4th on the Sudanese Premier League will host Al-Ahli Khartoum today Thursday in the domestic campaign.
