Ghanaian International Alfred Duncan completes loan move from Fiorentina to Cagliari
Alfred Duncan has completed his loan move from Fiorentina to Cagliari with the option to buy permanently after the Seria A bottomers announcing the deal on their official website on Sunday.
The Ghana International struggled to impress in Fiorentina colours since completing a €13million move from Sassuolo in January 2020.
The 26-year old has made 17 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions as Cesare Prandelli’s side fight for European football next season.
Despite Duncan’s struggle at Fiorentina, he has attracted interest from Genoa and Cagliari in this January transfer window.
Recent transfer talk in Duncan’s native country Ghana and where is plays now Italy have heavily linked the defensive midfielder with a move to Cagliari since opening of the winter transfer window.
In a the process to reunite with his former boss Eusebio Di Francesco, Duncan completed his medical at Cagliari last Friday before signing a contract on Sunday.
“Cagliari are delighted to announce the signing of Alfred Duncan from Fiorentina. The player joins the team on loan with an option to buy,” Cagliari announced on the official website.
This will be the second time Duncan is linking up with coach Francesco, having played under him at Sassuolo. Duncan has played for Sassuolo between 2015 and 2020, making 109 league appearance plus 7 goals over his five year period at Sassuolo.
Both Genoa and Cagliari are battling to escape relegation after 17 games in the Italian top flight league this season with the former sitting 18th on the log while the later a place above relegation zone but same points with Genoa.
Cagliari have failed to win any of the last five league games losing four and a draw, and as the battle to fight relegation begins, the Islanders have announced their first reinforcement in the January transfer window in Duncan.
The Ghanaian will remain with Cagliari until end of the season but have the option to buy permanently for €13million.
