Hearts of Oak legend reveals a season shocker after many of stars retained amid Ghana Premier League title

Hearts of Oak legend Amankwah Mireku has said he will be disappointed if his former side fails to defend the Ghana Premier League title this term.

According to the former Hearts of Oak captain, the team has the squad to defend the Ghana Premier League title this season after many of their stars being kept.

The defending champions are without a win after matchday three, with pressure mounting on head coach Samuel Boadu. They have drawn all their games so far where they nearly picked their first three points against Aduana Stars last Sunday after Kofi Kordzi giving them the led but Bright Adjei equalizd for the away side in the second half.

Mireku who won multiple Ghana Premier League titles with the club stated the team can replicate the success story of the 64 Battalion squad with the current crop of players.

“What will shock and pain me is Hearts of Oak failing to retain the league title because the players that won last season’s league, most of them are still part of the team. So if we are talking about the league, which team has more consistency than Hearts of Oak? So they have to win the league”, he said in an interview.

“In 2000 it was the same case that made us win the league consecutively because the core of the team was around. So, I see Hearts of Oak having their first 11 still available hence I don’t see why they can’t win the league”.

“If they don’t win the league, I will be surprised and I will be deeply shocked. Now that the foundation has been firm and there is the consistency they must win retain the league trophy”, he added.

Hearts of Oak travel to Obuasi to face Ash Gold SC in their next game. Ahead of that game, assistant boss has revealed the champions go into the game with a different strategy.

“Yes on the system we play, we are taking every game match after match, our next match is an away game (against Ash Gold) and we will deploy a different strategy,” the young tactician said as quoted on the Twitter page of the Phobians.
