EXCLUSIVE: Asante Kotoko considering Cape Coast Stadium for home games after Baba Yara Stadium closure

Asante Kotoko will move away from the Baya Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, now that the Ghana Premier League record holders are planning to make the Cape Coast Stadium their home grounds.

This consideration comes after the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Authority have decided to close down the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for renovation will start anytime soon to be able to host Ghana’s 63rd Independence Day ceremony on 6th March, 2020.

The Stadium was officially closed down yesterday Monday 17th February, and the decision has forced clubs who use the Stadium for their home games to find alternatives.

Currently, clubs who use the Stadium are Premier League outfits Asante Kotoko and King Faisal and Lower Division sides Asokwa Deportivo and Wassaman.

Kotoko are believed to considering the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, Sunyani Sports Complex (Sunyani Coronation Park) and Cape Coast Stadium for their home games, but according to our close sources, the Porcupine Warriors are nearing decision to settle for the Cape Coast Stadium in Cape Coast.

The Cape Cost Stadium is now one of the famous and best in Ghana (15, 000 capacity), a venue that hosted the 2017 WAFA tournament in Ghana, with Ghana thrashing Nigeria 4-1 in the final at the Stadium.

It also hosted Ghana’s AFCON qualifying opener against South Africa, with Partey’s 35’ and Kudus Mohammed 80’ minutes strikes handing the Black Stars their first victory in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

Kotoko will face Aduana Stars away on Wednesday in the Ghana Premier League before they host Bechem United on February 28, which the venue is yet to be determined.
