Mamelodi Sundowns Women becomes to first team to win historic Caf Women’s Champions League after beating Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 in Cairo

Mamelodi Sundowns Women have clinched the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League after beating Ghanaian champions Hasaacas Ladies in final in Cairo.

The Ghanaian side defeated Malabo Kings, AS Mande to secure semifinals qualification in their first two Group A games before drawing against hosts Wadi Degla to top their table. Hasaacas Ladies emerged narrow 2-1 victory against Moroccan side ASFAR in semifinals to reach the final first time in the historic Caf Women’s Champions League.

Mamelodi Sundowns cruise into semifinal spot after beating Rivers Angles United from Nigeria, Kenyan giants Vihiga Queens and drew with ASFAR before emerging 5-4 victory on penalties in semifinals against Malabo Kings after goalless draw with the Equatorial Guinean side.

Hasaacas Ladies were poised ahead of the final by having the top scorer of the tournament Evelyn Badu netting 5 goals within the rank. However, Mamelodi Sundowns pocket the threat of the energetic forward and cruise into 2-0 victory over the Ghanaians.

Strikes from Chuene Morifi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi were enough to tame Hasaacas Ladies as the South Africans become the first team to lift the Caf Women’s Champions League.

After the Women’s final, Caf has issued a new directive that all teams who would qualify for 2022-2023 Caf Champions League should have a women team and any team that failed to register a Women team will not be allowed to participate in next season’s Men’s competition.

By this clubs have already started raising Women’s team to meet the new club licensing requirement. Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko who could represent Ghana after taking a bold lead in the Ghanaian league are in the process of building their Women’s squad.

Madam Evelyn Nsiah Asare, a board member of Asante Kotoko, was part of the delegation from Ghana who led Hasaacas Ladies to the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League in Egypt and to the final.

Reports claims that she will be among the members that will lead Kotoko Women’s team project when she arrives in Ghana next week. And Yusif Basigi who coached Hasaacas Ladies in the tournament would be appointed as the head coach according to reports.

Not them alone, as clubs in Cameroon, Nigeria, Mali, Morocco and Zambia have started building their Women’s team.

With a classy finish, Chuene Morifi puts 1-0 for Mamelodi Sundowns against Hasaacas Ladies Football Club. It was the first goal a CAF Women’s Champions League final ever.

Sundowns dominated and scored their first and got the better of Hasaacas Ladies for the second after Andisiwe Mgcoyi was put through on goal. Mgcoyi placed the ball nicely at the bottom left corner as Hasaacas Ladies could not warmed back into the game.

There are no arrangements yet whether Mamelodi Sundowns Women will play in FIFA Women’s Club World Cup. Any information shall be followed and published on Futball Surgery.
