Asamoah Gyan Black Stars return boost as CK Akonnor set to offer forward opening doors

Ghana boss Charles Kwablan Akonnor is not closing opportunities for legendary forward Asamoah Gyan while precisely ready to open the Black Stars doors for the former captain.

The Black Stars coach insists the Legon Cities forward knows what to do to get into the national team.

Gyan has not played for the Black Stars since the Nations Cup in 2019 but there have been calls for him to be handed an invite due to the national team’s struggles with goals.

Ghana failed to score in their last team games against Morocco and Ivory Coast.

However, C.K Akonnor has handed a maiden call up to inform Kelvin Yeboah as he bolsters his attack ahead of the World Cup qualifiers next month.

The Ghana Premier League striker revealed his desire return to Black Stars in Afcon 2022 draw in Cameroon. The Ghanaian International took part in the occasion along with other African stars Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

Akonnor responded to Gyan’s desire: “Asamoah Gyan has made it clear that he wants to. He’s an experienced man and knows what to do for him to get into the team,” Akonnor in a zoom presser told the media.

“Once he does, he’s a Ghanaian and he’s done a marvellous job in the past. So, we’ve had a bit of discussion, he knows what to do. I’m also watching him closely.

And not just him but any other person that has the chance to come.

“The other day, I invited [Frank] Acheampong who is always one of them, who is also out of the team for quite some time but unfortunately there were issues not permitting him to come. So, it is open for everybody.”

Gyan was omitted from Ghana’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers while he needs more game time to appear in Black Stars’ subsequent games and the next Afcon in Cameroon.
