Georges Mfegue second half goal edges Kotoko over Medeama SC as Porcupine Warriors open 6-point lead

Asante Kotoko narrowly edged out Medeama SC by 1-0 in a crunch GPL week 14 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium

The game started with an aerial tussle between Ganiyu Ismail and Ahmed Toure after the visitors goalie had sent a long kick upfield but was dealt with properly by the Kotoko back line.

Mudasiru Salifu enjoying himself in the middle in the early stages, having taking on three players to set up Augustine Agyapong who had his cross eluded everyone in the box for a restart.
Medeama SC with their first attempt in the game on the 18th minute, Agyei Boakye made a decent run towards goal but also crossed wide beyond the reach of everyone.
Another Agyei Boakye’s teasing cross nearly brought the opener in just two minutes after but Ahmed Toure had his connection went off the upright. It was a scary one for the host.
Kotoko also with an opportunity but Dickson Afoakwa had his long range effort tipped off by the visitors goalie for a wasted corner kick.
Medeama skipper Kwesi Donsu also came so close with a powerful hit from outside the box but was dealt with properly by Danlad Ibrahim.
Inside the 37th minute mark, Imoro Ibrahim with another fine curler heading straight to the top corner but was tipped off sumptuously by Mandjui Boris. The resulting corner kick yielded nothing. It ended goalless at half time.

In the second half, Kwadwo Asamoah sets off Medeama in style, made a great run into the box but his final execution was stopped timely by Mubarik Yussif.

The Mauves and Yellows ain’t stopping from there after getting themselves two straight corner kicks on the 60th minute but all got well checked by the Kotoko defence.

The Porcupine Warriors came very close to scoring six minutes after, Richmond Lamptey beautifully connected Etouga’s cross with a strong volley but was once again denied by goalkeeper Mandjui Boris Jr.

After series of attacks, Asante Kotoko finally took the lead on the 79th minute courtesy Cameroonian import George Mfegue. Just what the supporters had been waiting for.

The host with another opportunity to double their lead after Richmond Lamptey was fouled in the box for a penalty on the 85th minute.

George Mfegue attempted for a brace but his kick was saved by goalkeeper Mandjui Boris Jr who has been outstanding today.
