Simba 1-0 Al Ahly: Luis Miquissone first half opener sinks Reds in Dar es Salaam as Simba go top of group A

Simba got their second straight win in the Caf Champions League group stage after beating defending champions Al Ahly 1-0 in Dar es Salaam to go top of group A.

With both teams winning their opening game, Simba welcomed the Egyptian giants to the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium for Caf Champions League group stage match-day 2.

Simba run away from Kinshasa with a 1-0 victory over AS Vita Club in their opening fixture. Thanks to Mutshimba Kope Mugalu who converted a second half penalty for the Tanzania side.

Ahly after returning with a third place from the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar white-washed Sudan’s Al-Merrikh in their first group stag game with Mohamed Magdy, Kahraba and Walter Bwalya strike each in the second half at the Cairo International Stadium.

In today’s contest, it was a battle for the top spot though Ahly led the table with a 2-goal superiority over Simba. Gomes Da Rosa made a change to the side that won against AS Vita Club in Dr. Congo with Hassan Dilunga replacing Larry Bwalya at left side of attack in a 4-4-2 formation.

Pitso Mosimane also almost maintained the side that won in their opening game against Al-Merrikh but Hamdy Fathi and Ahmed Tawfik came in for Al-Sulay and Magdy in that was two changes in the South African’s starting lineup.

Junior Ajayi Bwalya and Kahraba led the line as Ahly opted to start the game with a 4-3-3 formation. Despite the formation looked like attacking one which would leave the back fragile, it was able to hold Simba in first 30’ minutes of the game.

Simba were not clinical enough in that open minutes despite threatening Ahly. Mosimane’s side were tactically discipline on the other hand. But Ahly’s resilience couldn’t hold for a longer time when Simba finally took the lead on 31’ minute.

The Tanzanian side pushed Al Ahly into their won box resulting from prolong possession and while Simba still finding it difficult to go through the Ahly defense Luis Miquissone sent a beautiful one from outside the box into the roof of the next.

Ahly poured forward in search for the leveler but lacked the urgency upfront to find back of the net with a little move from Bwalya, Kahbara and Ajayi a major problem.

Simb’s victory today give them 6 points from 2 games whiles Al Ahly sit third behind AS Vita Club who also whip Al Merrikh in Sudan.
