Kudus Mohammed: Ghanaian superstar among players with most goal contribution in UEFA Champions League this season

At the beginning of the season, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund were favourites to win this season’s Champions League.

In the semifinals stage now, only two of these clubs are on course of the initial expectation held of them with Real Madrid crushing out Chelsea in the quarter finals and Manchester City eliminating Bayern Much to reach the last four.

Though Man City and Real Madrid last four reach isn’t a surprise to the football world but the places of Italian sides AC Milan and Inter Milan, whom the two meet at the semifinals, have not only generate but also dig deep into curiosity.

Unlike for the clubs, there isn’t too much surprise about players making the most goal contribution in this term’s European elite football with the likes of Man City’s Erling Haaland whom many tipped for the Champions League Golden Boot is in the race for that award following his 12-goal lead on the top scorer chat.

PSG duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have appeared on the list of players significantly contributing to their team’s goal-scoring record in the Champions League. Goal contribution defined as the number of goals a player has scored together with his assists in the competition at the point in time or at the end of the competition.

The Argentine and French International have a combined 18 goal contribution for PSG 5 more than what Haaland alone has contributed for Manchester City. Haaland leads the goal king race with 12 goals meaning the former Dortmund forward has assisted only once this season which put him below Kudus Mohamed in terms of assists.

African superstar and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has contributed 10 goals with 8 goals and 2 assists which put him below the Ghanaian International.

Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, has managed 12 goal contribution. A good news comes to Ghanaian International Kudus Mohammed who has contributed 7 time to appear in the first 10 announcing his sensationalism for Dutch side Ajax this term.

The Black Stars midfielder has been phenomenal for the Dutch giants, scoring 18 goals across all competitions and providing 5 assists in the process.

Kudus put up an impressive performance in the group stages of the Champions League despite his outfit early elimination. Ajax suffered a group stage exit as Liverpool and Napoli secured qualification to the Round of 16.

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe has 10 goals contribution each while seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has eight.

The in-form Ghana midfielder also find himself in the best goal and assist per game list.

In terms of goal-king alone. Kudus sit 12th position with his 4 goals impressive when compared him with other African players in the Champions League. Salah leads with 8 goals, followed by Napoli and Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen 5, Kudus 4 and Cameroon and Bayern Munich star Maxim Choupo-Moting 4 goals.
