BREAKING: Ex Asante Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford applies for GFA Technical Director position

Former Asante Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford has applied for the Technical Director position at the GFA as confirmed by the two times Ghana Premier League winner.

The Technical Director position is currently occupied by Francis Oti Akenten, and the experience Director is expected to leave his post, now that it’s understood that GFA is no longer extending his contract that expires next month.

This leaves the door for interested parties to submit their applications, and now former Medeama SC and Asante Kotoko gaffer has confirmed that he has submitted his application to the Ghana Football Association in a bid to land the demanding Technical Director role.

He confirmed to Kumasi based Radio Station Kumasi 104.1 FM saying, “Yes, I was told to that the FA is looking for a technical director and with my knowledge and experience in coaching I have applied without any lobbying,” he told Kumasi 104.1 FM.

“I will be very happy if I’m giving the job and it will be so sad should the FA appoint a foreigner.”

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian trainer is just returning home from Somalia after resigning from his duty as Somalia national team head coach this month.

Hayford is highly remembered for his wonders with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the 2007-2008 season when he guided the Porcupine Warriors to clinch the Ghana Premier League title, and led the side to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

His Confederation Cup group stage football for Kotoko had existed for almost 10 years for it to be replicated before now Black Stars head coach C.K Akunnor led to similar achievement in the 2018-2019 season.

Bashir Hayford also guided Ash Gold to lift the Ghana Premier League title in 2014-2015 season before he was appointed as manager of the Ghana women’s national football team in August 2018.

In March 2019, he was appointed as manager of the Somalia men’s national football team, and return home early this month.
