Marcus Rashford double against Chelsea sends Manchester United through to the quarters of Carabao Cup

Chelsea welcomed Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for a fourth round tie of the Carabao Cup but lost 2-1 to Ole Gunnar Solskjær side.

Frank Lampard replaced Azpilicueta with Reece James at right back position, Marc Guehi in for Tomori, Billy Gilmour paired Jorginho and Kovacic midfield, and Michy Batshauyi got the nod over Olivier Giroud up front in the absence of Tammy Abraham.

Manchester United called most of their first-choice players into action with Marcus Rashford leading the line for United. Nineteen year old boy Brandon Williams was the only surprised starter for Manchester United on the night.

Manchester United took the lead after Marcus Rashford converted a penalty on the 25th minute as Marcus Alonso fouled Daniel James in Chelsea penalty box. Batshauyi equalized for Chelsea on 61’ minute before Rashford again restore United lead with a stunning free-kick from approximately 35 yards on the 73rd minute.

This lost means Chelsea’s seven game unbeaten run in all competitions have been terminated by Ole’s men who at the beginning of the season white-washed Chelsea 4-0.

Chelsea lost 5-4 on penalties to Liverpool in the Super Cup and suffered another 2-1 defeat to Klopp’s side in the EPL. Lampard’s side experienced a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Unites in opening day of the season before losing 2-1 again today against the Manchester club in the Carabao Cup.

This means Chelsea have failed to get a point against any of the six big clubs in England this season.

This win also means United have won all of their third consecutive games and Rashford scored his third goal in the season against Chelsea after hitting double in the EPL at Old Trafford two months ago.
