Hearts of Oak home game against Asante Kotoko in Ghana Premier League matchday 7 cancelled as new date to be communicated

Hearts of Oak Ghana Premier League game against Asante Kotoko in matchday 7 has been cancelled with new date to be communicated. Hearts’ African participation appears a hindrance to Ghana’s El classico next two weeks.

This is due to the itinerary of Hearts of Oak in respect of the 2nd leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-off tie against JS Saoura which makes them unable to return in good time to honour the fixture.

The Ghanaian Champions are expected to return home on Friday, December 10, 2021 – making it impossible to play the match on Sunday, December 12.

Accra Hearts of Oak head into the fixture with a 2-0 advantage from the 1st leg and would hope to hang on to qualify for the Group stage of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup.

Hearts were scheduled to play their arch rivals Asante Kotoko on Match Day 7 of the Premier League on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Accra Sports stadium.

A new date would be communicated in due course. Kotoko lead the Ghana Premier League table with 13 points and Hearts sit last on the log with 3 points.

While Kotoko have not lost a game so far, winning opening four games before drawing against Karela United in matchday 5, Hearts have not picked a win.

Hearts remain the only side that have not tasted a victory drawing three and losing one though they have a game in hand after playing in Caf Confederation Cup last Sunday.

Last season, Heart got the better of Asante Kotoko over home-and-away fixtures. The first game ended goalless draw before Hearts won the return fixture 1-0 thanks to Afriyie Barnieh stoppage time goal.

That eventually turned Hearts into league champions, going three points clear off their traditional rivals. Prior to the game, Hearts had always led the table on superior goal difference but the victory gave them a 3-point lead.

The Accra based side added the FA Cup title after beating Ash Gold on penalties in final in the capital. Hearts were predicted with good campaign in the current season after keeping majority of their previous stars despite interest from Africa and Europe.

But they have run a poor campaign in the 2021-2022 season failing to win a game in their first four games. The slow start has seemly handed the title to Asante Kotoko as many people say having been leapfrogged 10 points below the leaders.

However, Hearts officials have not conceded defeat yet reportedly planning to bounce back into the domestic campaign once their fate in Africa is finally determined. They were eliminated from the Caf Champions League to the Confederation Cup after suffering 7-2 aggregate loss to Wydad Casablanca in the competition’s first round.

Skipping?

Their heavy loss paved way for another chance to make meaningful impact in second tier after handed a play-off fixture against Algerian side JS Saoura in the Confederation Cup.

Hearts have won the first leg and head into the return game with a 2-0 lead, a score line consider a good one in African inter club football.

The Ghanaian side have to go down 3-0 or higher before they exit the competition which is something difficult for Saoura especially given the experience Hearts have accumulated in Africa so far.

Don’t miss out on

Hearts will be playing their fifth game in Africa this season while JS Saoura will be gracing their 3rd after coming 3-2 winners over Liberia side ASAC Concorde in the second round of the Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaians’ outnumber and tasting the Champions League should be enough factors to height them against JS Saoura next Sunday.
