Black Stars boss CK Akonnor revelation about Asante Kotoko-Al Hilal Caf Champions League dressing room visit

Ghana coach CK Akonnor has revealed he visited the Asante Kotoko dressing during half time to motivate the players during the CAF Champions League clash with Al Hilal staged in Accra.

Kotoko succumbed 1-0 to the Sudanese side at the Accra Sports Stadium last week and are now facing elimination from the top-tier competition.

And Akonnor, who is a former Kotoko coach, thought his presence would have had an effect on the team’s output but that was not to be.

“It was very difficult for me, but I thought it wise that Kotoko was representing Ghana so if I show my face, the players could be motivated by seeing the Black Stars head coach around,” he told Kumasi based Kessben FM.

“I went into the dressing room with one motive, and that was to motivate the boys to play with their everything to get a good result before the second leg.

“Also, my presence could have helped the players to put up a performance which can grant some of them a call up in the senior national team.

“All in all, as an ex-coach of the team, it became very necessary for me to show my sincere and genuine support,” he added.

Kotoko will be hosted by the Sudanese for the second leg of the preliminary round on January 5 in Omdurman.
