Hearts of Oak relieved of Gladson Awako transfer saga with Great Olympics plus why Ghana Premier League champions delayed in making final payment

Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak have been relieved of potential damages from the Accra High Court over failure to pay Gladson Awako transfer fee after Great Olympics, who had sought redresses from the law institution over payment they have to receive for sale of Awako to rivals, redrawing their interest.

Olympics’ redraw of interest was followed by Hearts honouring second payment having learnt the punishment they could receive from the Accra High Court.

Chief Executive Officer of Great Olympics, Oluboi Commodore has confirmed they have withdrawn their court sue against Hearts of Oak from the capital’s High Cout after receiving final Ghc50,000 arrears concerning Gladson Awako’s deal.

The experience playmaker left Great Olympics for Hearts of Oak at the end of last season. The Ghana Premier League champions were forced by the transfer contractual agreement to fulfill second payment of installment before October 2, 2021.

This means Heart have initially honoured first installment payment in an undisclosed amount but have failed to register second payment. According to reports, Hearts have failed to honour the second installment payment due to Awako’s delayed to start life at the club.

Awako who has also played for African giants TP Mazembe went on sabbatical leave right after completing his much talked about move to Hearts citing both spiritual and health reasons for his sideline.

In his sabbatical leave, the 30-year old requested for contract termination at Hearts of Oak but were denied wish.

The Caf Champions League participants may have feared that the player would not be able to return and play for them, and may have hold on with final Ghc50,000 payment to Great Olympics.

Meanwhile, Hearts have exited the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup after leapfrogging behind Wydad and JS Saoura respectively.

Awako missed out on all African games but only resumed Hearts training in club’s preparations for second leg clash against JS Saoura in Algeria which eventually ended in heavy 4-0 loss in the Northern green land.

Great Olympics reportedly warned Hearts of Oak and asked them to honour the second payment a couple of weeks ago. However, Hearts gave deaf ears to Olympics’ requested before the later dragged the Premier League champions to the Accra High Court on Tuesday morning.

In the turn to the day’s afternoon, there appeared a huge development with Hearts of Oak relieved of potential damages from the Accra High Court after making their final payment of the transfer fee.

Great Olympics top official Oluboi Commodore has revealed the current state of the issue confirming that his camp have dropped their case against Hearts since the Phobians have now done the ‘needful’, He told Fox FM in Kumasi.

“Hearts of Oak have done the needful in relation to the Gladson Awako’s issue so the case has now been withdrawn from court.”

“They paid the arrears of Ghc50, 000 being the final payment of Awako’s fee so there is no case now.”

“We wanted Hearts to accord us respect, the issue isn’t only about the money they had to pay.”  He landed.

Hearts’ reluctance over the second payment may not due to lack of funds but Awako’s availability to them was reportedly a major issue. In wake of his sabbatical leave, top clubs continue to eye the play-maker with reports linked him to Hearts rivals Asante Kotoko whom the player snubbed in initial dealings.

A side Kotoko, Premier Soccer League giants Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Chipper United were interested in making a move before they learnt Awako is somehow tied with Hearts of Oak.

Having been satisfied the player is ready to play for them since resuming training last week, Hearts have reacted positively to cleared the debt something that they should and could have but reasons of fear of loss of Awako delayed their final payment.

Awako’s presence could boost Hearts’ poor start to this Ghana Premier League campaign.

Hearts of Oak is the only side deprived of victory after the sixth Ghana Premier League fixture. They have two outstanding games resulting from Caf Confederation Cup outings against JS Saoura both in Ghana and Algeria.
