German BUNDESLIGA cleared for restart after government approval

The German Bundesliga will resume to action in second half of May after the government grants approval to collaborated request to restart the season.

Germany was one of the countries impacted by the coronavirus in Europe having been infected with over 150,000 cases and death toll standing at approximately 6,300 so far.

The intrusion of the virus in German means there hasn’t been Bundesliga games since mid-March this year with nine league games left to complete the season.

However, there has been collaborated effort in recent weeks among European major league officials to resume season across in Europe and German Bundesliga is now the first of any Europe’s major league to be handed clearance to resume the season.

Matches in Germany’s top two divisions can take place later this month, without spectators.

The Bundesliga’s General Assembly will be held in Frankfurt on Thursday to discuss the health and safety protocol to ensure the league’s safe return. They are expected to decide on the start date and match calendar in that meeting.

The majority of Bundesliga clubs have nine matches left to play in this campaign – Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen have 10 – with leaders Bayern Munich four points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in second.
