Premier League return fresh warning as UK government not convinced about competition’s return

Premier League have been working to resume the season but latest reports isn’t a good one for the league as Premier League contingency planning for the league return ‘have not been given the green light’ by government.

There are ongoing plans to play the remaining Premier League games at neutral grounds and behind closed doors under safety protocols.

The competition needs to be given a green light before it finally resumes but the government is not convinced the Premier League can resume yet, even behind closed doors.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden warned during an interview with BBC Radio 4, stating that football is yet to get the “green light” in England.

“They’ve not been given the green light.

“If we can get a plan that works then I’d like us to be able to go ahead with it because I think it would be good for the nation, it would be good for football as a whole.

“I’m really hopeful we can get this up and running but public safety must come first so it’s only if we’re confident of that that we’ll be able to proceed.”

The government is not convinced about the measures contingency proposed the remaining games would be played.

The officials working in the interest of league’s resumption will meet again with clubs on Monday before they revisit the government for undated measures.
