Graham Potter has revealed Wesley Fofana was taken off late on in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Everton due to “fatigue”.

Potter did, though, confirm the France international was feeling his hamstring. Fofana was spotted in the dugout at Stamford Bridge with an ice pack on his right thigh, leaving some Blues supporters to fear the worst.

“Wes Fofana had to come off with fatigue, as he has had a long time out,” Potter explained. “He was feeling his hamstring. Wes was fantastic and defended well.”

Fofana missed just under four months earlier this season with a knee injury and only returned to the squad midway through February. The Frenchman has been really impressive since coming back into the side and Chelsea will be hoping it’s nothing too serious. Fofana, likewise, who was called up to the France senior squad for the first time earlier in the week for their matches against the Netherlands and Republic of Ireland.

Chelsea were held at home to Everton on Saturday evening despite having the lead twice in the game. Joao Felix handed the Blues the lead early into the second-half, but Abdoulaye Doucoure levelled the match, moments before Kai Havertz converted from the penalty spot to restore the hosts’ advantage.

Ellis Simms, though, scored a late equaliser for the visiting Toffees to earn them a point and end Chelsea’s three-match winning run. It’s now a two-week international break with Chelsea next in action against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, April 1.
