Percy Tau tipped to become superstar at Al Ahly following impression in FIFA Club World Cup

Former Egypt national team assistant coach Roger De Sa believes Percy Tau has underperformed since joining Al Ahly.

Tau had completed a permanent transfer to Al Ahly from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2021, signing a three-year contract at the Red Castle.

Despite a good start to life in Egypt, Tau has been the subject of criticism from fans and pundits who expected a better goal return from the South African.

The 28-year-old has made just six league appearances for Al Ahly this season, scoring against Ghazl El-Mahalla and Ittihad of Alexandria.

He was also on target for Al Ahly in their FIFA Club World Cup opener against New Zealand giants Auckland City, scoring the third goal of the night after coming off the bench.

“I thought Tau was going to be a superstar in Egypt when I saw him arriving,” De Sa said on SuperSport TV.

” I thought he would score 30 goals in that league. I think he got a few injuries but I think he has the quality to play in that league and score 30 goals.

“He has good players around him, which is fantastic,” he added.

Al Ahly currently lead the Egyptian Premier League table after 15 games played with 37 points, six ahead of rivals Pyramids FC.

The Red Devils are also set to face European champions Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup on Wednesday, February 8th.
