Al Ahly move for Gaston Sirino could suffer set back as director of football reveals

Director of football for Al Ahly Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has provided updates on move for the Gaston Sirino from Mamelodi Sundowns after Abdel-Hafiz admitting ‘it’s possible Ahly could delay or even stop chasing the play-maker’.

The Uruguayan forward has been linked with a move to the Red Devils since last season, but the rumours have intensified after Pitso Mosimane took charge of the club.

Sirino was one of Pitso’s favorite players at Sundowns and both the Reds’ board and the South African head coach are keen on bringing him to Egypt.

Adding fuel to the fire, the 29-year-old expressed his desire to leave Sundowns to join up with his former coach at African champions Al Ahly.

Speaking on Sirino’s future, Abdel-Hafiz said: “I do not have the final details about the negotiations with Sirino.

“The file is currently in the hands of the Head of Transfers Amir Tawfik.

“It is possible to delay the negotiations with him for another period, this is very possible, and it is also possible that we don’t sign him at all,” he added.

Following the arrival of Raja skipper Badr Benoun, the Reds are now forced to let go of one of their foreign players, which could become two in case they managed to recruit Sirino.

Geraldo and Aliou Badji are probably the two names that will leave the club in the upcoming period, despite the Angolan’s participation in the Champions League final.

“Some of our foreign players are nearing to exit the club,” Abdel-Hafiz revealed.

“Badr Benoun and the new players will be in our squad for the Ittihad of Alexandria game in the Egypt Cup,” he concluded.

Al Ahly had defeated second-division side Abu Qir Fertilizers in the Egypt Cup’s quarter-finals last week to advance to the next round.

They are set to face Ittihad of Alexandria in the semi-finals on Tuesday, December 1st as kick-off takes place at 20:00 CLT.
