Mortada Mansour- Zamalek board suspended by Ministry of Sports

The Ministry of Sports announced the suspension of the Zamalek’s board of directors, and their referral to the Public Prosecution.

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour recently lost the Parliamentary elections meaning his immunity will be lifted starting from January next year.

Mansour was then faced accusations, most notably from arch-rivals Al Ahly, who filed 13 complaints to Egypt’s Public Prosecutor against Mansour.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee had also banned him from any sporting activity for four years as well as fining him EGP100,000 after receiving complaints from a number of sports organizations, including the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Handball Federation.

To make matters worse for Mansour, the Ministry of Sports, led by Ashraf Sobhi, announced that Zamalek’s financial violations have been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Additionally, Mansour and his board have been suspended on a temporary basis until the prosecution concludes their investigations.

Mansour has been Zamalek’s president since March of 2014, where the White Knights managed to win five Egypt Cup titles, a CAF Confederation Cup, a CAF Super Cup, and an Egyptian Premier League title since then.
