Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham plotting January swoop on Real Madrid for Eder Militao

Tottenham are reportedly will launch a bid to lure fallen-out-of-favour Eder Militao from Real Madrid this January transfer window.

“Real Madrid CF and FC Porto have agreed the transfer of the player Eder Militao, who will be linked to the club during the next six seasons, until June 30, 2025, Real Madrid confirmed Militao’s deal in official statement via Sky Sports.

“He comes from Porto, where in his first season he has become one of the main protagonists of the Portuguese League. He has been named in the best defence of the championship for five consecutive months.

“A multi-purpose player, Militao plays central, although he has also occupied the right-back position. He stands out for his speed, placement, and ability to anticipate.

“In addition, he has a good aerial game. Qualities that he has worn since his arrival last summer at Porto, where he has shown a rapid adaptation to European football.”

The Brazilian was signed from FC Porto for £43million in 2019 with huge expectations but has saw high faith scuff on ground in a small period into his six-year contract at Santiago Bernabéu struggling to warm back into Zidane’s heart.

The 22-year-old made only 15 appearances in La Liga last term as the Los Blancos went on to clinched Spanish top flight league title.

Militao’s future has been brought to serious scrutiny ahead of the January transfer window after Real Madrid reportedly willing to let the South American defender leave if not this term in the summer claimed by AS.

However, Tottenham are confident of securing a deal for Militao in the current window. It’s understood that former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho admires the central defender and has instructed Tottenham to make sure they get a deal done before competition for Militao’s signature becomes stiffer in beginning of next season.

Mourinho’s side have been solid at the back so far – only Manchester City have a better defensive record – with Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld forming a strong partnership.

But still need more in-depth to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City or at least secure Champions League football in 2021-2022 campaign.

Alderweireld is a transfer target for PSV however, and while Spurs have Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon as back-up, Mourinho is thought to be keen on Militao’s versatility due to his capabilities as a right back and defensive midfielder.

Tottenham failed in a bid to land Militao in last summer’s transfer window and is currently battling to return to action after testing positive for coronavirus in early November.
