Arsenal close in on Lyon star Houssem Aouar as Frenchman finally agrees to join Arteta’s side

Arsenal emerge closer to completing the transfer of Houssem Aouar from Lyon after the French International finally given a green light to his stance on Arsenal move.

That’s according to latest report from L’Equipe who are now reporting Houssem Aouar has agreed to join Arsenal.

Aouar is one of the players Arteta knee on adding to his midfield department thi season as reinforcements have already taken place at Emirate Stadium following announcement of Willian, Runar Runarsson and Gabriel Magalhães deals.

The French International, 22, has been on Arsenal’s shopping list for time now after deals for the likes Thomas Partey and Philippe Coutinho look very unlikely this summer as it stands now.

It’s already established that Arsenal are clear favorites over Juventus, Manchester City and Barcelona’s registered interest and even a breakthrough over the transfer has been made in few past hours.

With the North London side ready to submit a bid around €35-40million in exchange for Aouar’s signature according to RMC Sport. But Arsenal’s offer is still far behind Lyon’s €60million valuation of their attacking midfielder.

Now L’Equipe, who have been monitoring the deal after RMC Sport report, claims that the French International has given a latest development on the transfer where he would want to make a move to the Premier League.

In contrast, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas insisted in April that the club will do everything possible to keep hold of a prized asset who still has three years left to run on his current contract.

“Houssem has not said he wants to leave,” Aulas said. “We want to try to keep him even though the interest is considerable. There are no negotiations ongoing.”

However, RMC Sports report explained that the 22-year old has finally agreed to join Arteta’s side ahead of Barca, Juve and Man City.

He has netted 5 goals in 12 games since December last year and is expected to leave Groupama Stadium to end his Lyon term.

Aouar has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in League 1 since breaking into the Lyon first team in 2017.

The 22-year-old has contributed 24 goals and 25 assists to the French outfit’s cause in 135 appearances across all competitions, and has played a key role in their run to the Champions League quarter-finals this season.
