GFA name StarTimes Broadcasting Company as Television Rights Holders of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup

Chinese based broadcasting company StarTimes have gained access to Television broadcasting rights for the Ghana Premier League.

The broadcasting company fought off competition from six companies for the Television Broadcasting Rights, and made initial announcement of the new deal at the facebook page.

A statement on their Facebook page reads: ”StarTimes has acquired the TV rights to broadcast the Ghana Premier League. Stay connected for more details. It’s a good time to be on StarTimes”

The organization is understood to be preparing to sign a five-year agreement with the GFA worth $5.25m US Dollars to be the exclusive Television Rights owner of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.

On the part of the Ghana Football Association, a press release on their official website confirmed the new deal with StarTimes on Wednesday evening.

“The Ghana Football Association is delighted to announce to its stakeholders that StarTimes Ghana are the new Television Rights Holders of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.”

“StarTimes emerged winners of the competitive bidding process after the GFA accepted their offer, which was the best among other bids.”

“StarTimes will sign a five-year agreement with the GFA worth $5.25m US Dollars to be the exclusive Television Rights owner of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup with immediate effect.”

The GFA will produce highlights of the League to some Television Stations in Ghana in non-exclusive category of the Broadcasting Rights Package. This means, selected TV Stations in Ghana who failed to claim the official Broadcasting Rights will be provided with highlights of the Ghana League by the GFA.

“Meanwhile, the GFA has decided to make highlights of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup available to other television stations in a non exclusive category.”

“As part of the agreement, part of the monetary consideration will be used to produce matches and highlights of the Division One League, the Women’s Premier League and Women’s FA Cup to give the competitions the needed visibility.”

“The GFA, will, in due course, announce names of television stations who have been granted non-exclusive rights for the highlights shows.”

The Ghana Football Association welcomes StarTimes as its partner and is looking forward to having a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship.

StarTimes is reported to start work during week three of the league this weekend with matches in Kumasi, Accra and Dormaa looking the likeliest to begin the broadcasting.
