Police officers interdicted after spotted celebrating Kotoko second goal against Hearts of Oak in GPL Week 6

Asante Kotoko grabbed the bragging rights on Ghana’s local football calendar after beating their traditional rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Week 6 of the Ghana Premier League.

Justice Blay put Kotoko ahead on the 11th minute but the ‘never-say-die’ boys as Hearts of Oak have been identified with draw on level, and that equalizer from their best player now Joseph Esso  in the second half saddened the excitement of Kotoko supporters.

Kotoko needed a second goal to rekindle the happiness of their numerous support base at the Stadium, and they stole the match winner when Guinea forward Naby Kieta converted a stoppage time penalty to send Kotoko up 2-1.

And that goal did not only cause identified Kotoko supporter the joy, however, two police men who were obliged by duty to monitor the reaction of supporters in the Stadium during this crucial stage, were also spotted celebrating with Kotoko supporters.

According to latest reports, the two police officer have been interdicted by the Ghana Police Service as their action has been primarily interpreted as against the ethics of Police Service when on duty at the stadium.

The two police men were part of the police force deployed to ensure the protection of the supporter, and to maintain law and order but defiled their core obligations to opt for footballing activities.

Unfortunately the celebrations were done just in front of the losing side Hearts of Oak fans which could have caused problems.

According to sources, after investigation, the two officers will not be assigned to the stadium again to provide security.
