‘John Boye and other players still have feature with the Black Stars under me’, C.K Akunnors

C.k Akunnor has revealed that the door is not closed for John Boye despite being omitted from his first national team call-up.

Akunnor announced his squad for this month’s AFCON 2021 double header with Sudan and absent from the list is Boye- who appears one of the top players omitted for the call up under Akunnor.

The 32 year old has been regular for Metz in the French top flight this season and even captained them their crucial away win over Amiens last weekend.

Responding to a question about Boye’s absence, C.K Akunnor noted that Boye still has a chance to be part of future call-ups.

“John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Harrison (Afful) and the rest, I respect them, you know I have been a player before and I know what they’ve done for this country and if the need be for them to come into the team, they will’, Akunnor stated.

The gaffer explained he decided to settle with the squad that played Ghana’s game against South Africa and Sao Tome in the AFCON qualifiers.

“I made mention of the squad that played the last time, this is my first time, I don’t want to change things too much…John Boye and the rest, they are important, their time will come” he concluded.

Ghana hosts Sudan 27th March at the Cape Coast stadium before returning for the second leg 3 days later.
