AS Vita Club 0-1 Raja Casablanca, Soufiane Rahimi second half strike reliefs Jamal Sellami of early pressure

As Vita Club continued their poor start to the 2019-2020 CAF Champions League group phase as they sat home to see Moroccan side Raja Casablanca pick all three points. Both clubs lost their first games in the group stage of the Champions League, but with As Vita Club losing their game away against Algerian side JS Kabylie, they pondered to use their home advantage to claim their first win against Raja Casablanca- who were also beaten by Esperance last weekend.

Vita Club couldn’t let their dominance in terms of possession over the away side count. After seeing 65% of ball possession against Raja’s 35%, the Dr Congo side were still leapfrogged by Raja Casablaca at Stade des Martyrs.

After a first half goalless draw, Soufiane Rahimi rose through the ranks to put Raja ahead on the 48’ minute, which Vita, who have no points from two games now failed to fought back.

This win provides a relief for Jamal Sellami who has recorded his first win in two games after replacing Patrice Carteron early last month. His first game was a 2-0 defeat at home to title holder Esperance, where he faced qualification setback should he loses today’s game, and has run out of Dr Congo as a victor man.

Meanwhile, his side still fall behind leaders Eperance de Tunis and second place JS Kabylie in Group D, who will also face each other tomorrow in Tunis.
