Former skipper Amos Frimpong set sight on return to Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club former captain Amos Frimpong has set his sight on returning to the Ghana Premier League side not to play football but to take up different managerial position if the need arises.

Amos was a house hold name at Kotoko before he left for Guinea side AS Kaloum Star in July 2019 on a two-year deal.

He led Kotoko to lift the Ghana Premier League title three times and the FA Cup on two occasions before his successful campaign in the 2018-2019 CAF Confederation Cup saw the Guinea side came in for his services.

The former right-back has now set sight on coming back to complete his ‘unfinished business’ with the Ghana Premier League giants by way of serving in managerial position or coaching the club when he retires from playing football.

“It’s my dream to re-enter into football after I hang up my boots because it is everything to me,” Amos said in a Q&A session with Whatsapp platform ‘Kum Apem Group’ on Sunday night.

“Football is a game I really love the most so God willing after retiring I would love to venture into it again, therefore, I will do anything possible to achieve that aim so that if there’s any vacant position anywhere especially in Kotoko and I qualify for it, I will gladly grab it.”

“I believe i have unfinished business with the club.” Amos, 28, joined Kotoko from Brong Ahafo United in 2011 before being named captain of the side four years later.

The former Brong Ahafo United man is arguably one of Kotoko’s most decorated players for the past decade, wining eleven major trophies including 3 league titles, 2 FA Cups, 2 President Cups, 2 SWAG Cups, Super Cup 1 and the maiden edition of the Normalization Committee Special competition.

Meanwhile, the defender has already talked about the feeling that he is Kotoko’s best ever player in the last 10 years.
“There are many instances I can cite in justifying why I deserve to be Kotoko’s best player of the decade,” said the 28-year old.

“There are a lot of games I won for Asante Kotoko; in the semi-finals game in the NC special competition, I scored the winning penalty against Hearts of Oak.

“In the MTN FA cup finals in Tamale in 2017, as captain, together with my teammates I won that cup for Asante Kotoko. In the president cup in 2016 and 17, my last penalty goal won it for us.”

“I feel elated in my closet for helping Asante Kotoko win all these trophies,” he concluded.

He has played 57 games for the AS Kaloum Star since arriving in Guinea and grabbed 5 goals in total but two of the goals has come in 9 CAF Confederation Cup games.
