KOTOKO turn to fans for financial support amid paying FIFA fine to Esperance over Emmanuel Clottey transfer
Ghanaian heavyweights Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have turned to their numerous fans base to raise funds to pay Esperance de Tunis over wrongfully signing Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Clottey from the Tunisian side back in 2015.
After FIFA asking the Porcupine Warriors to pay a hefty fine of $240,000, there would be a collaborative effort within the Kotoko fraternity to settle such a huge fine.
And management member, Nana Kwame Dankwah has called on Kotoko fans to support the management of the club to raise funds to pay the fine before 10 May 2020.
“Yes, we have received the FIFA notice, and we have to act on it,” he told Asempa FM.
“I believe that as a Kotoko family which entails management and the supporters, we need to make sure that we support our leader Kwame Kyei, so that we can find a solution to this problem,”
“Let’s come together so that we find solutions on how are we going to pay this money.”
“It has happened before, during Herbert Mensah’s time when Kotoko wrongfully dismissed Hans Dieter Schmidt, we were slapped with a huge fine.”
“Dr. Sarpong was able to do an appeal for funds to raise money which was eventually topped up by management to clear the debt.”
“So I will urge all of us to come together to help clear this current debt.”
The Ghanaian Premier League side face a potential sanction of demotion to Division One if they fail to settle the debt by 10 May, 2020.
