Ghana League Clubs Association chairman Cudjoe Fianoo expresses worry about Kotoko potential demotion to lower division

Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman Cudjoe Fianoo has expressed worry about Asante Kotoko’s potential demotion to the lower tier if the Ghanaian giants fail to pay debt owed to Esperance de Tunis over the signing of Emmanuel Clottey in 2015.

FIFA has since ordered the Ghana Premier League record holders, with 23 titles, to pay North African side Esperance de Tunis an initial fine of $180,000 (€164,195) signing 2012 CAF Champions League top scorer Emmanuel Clottey.

However, other additional fines sum up to a total of $240,000 (€218,915) which a FIFA ultimatum has set the Porcupine Warriors to settle the debt before 10th next month with a pending demotion to First Division.

GHALCA chairman, Fianoo in an interview with told Light FM expressed his worry about Kotoko’s potential demotion, and the Ghana League Clubs Association have no strength in helping the Warriors escape the potential demotion.

“As Ghalca chairman, we are worried about the crisis that has entangled Kotoko, but it’s rather unfortunate we don’t have the strength to help, with the Ghana Football Association also not well-positioned [to help].”

“We simply cannot sit idle for Ghana’s gigantic club to be relegated.

“They [Kotoko’s management] should reach out to their numerous supporters around the world, forget any pain cause by one other, swallow their pride, bury their differences and come together in resolving this issue.”

“This will serve as a good lesson for the club [Kotoko] because they have been paying a lot of judgement debt recently,” Fianoo added.

“I believe Kotoko supporters have that capacity of helping extremely.”
