Huddersfield loanee Ramadan Sobhi set to quit Al Ahly for Egyptian Premier League rivals Pyramids
Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC have confirmed that star player Ramadan Sobhi has expressed his desire to join domestic rivals Pyramids.
The Egyptian Premier League champions look poised to resign the 23-year-old from Huddersfield after a successful loan spell but have now been rocked by his latest decision.
Ahly had endured a long protracted transfer saga with the English second-tier club after he netted four goals in six games before the coronavirus enforced suspension of football.
However, the two clubs eventually struck an agreement for a permanent deal worth £3.5-million but Sobhi informed the Red Devils that he would like time to consider his options with Italian side Udinese reportedly interested.
But Ahly have now confirmed Sobhi called on Wednesday to inform them of his decision to join the ambitious club, with FilGoal reporting he’s accepted a three-year contract worth a staggering R90-million.
“Amir Tawfiq, the contract manager, received a call from the player a short time ago, informing him that he does not want to play for Al-Ahly and will move to the Pyramids club,” read part of the lengthy statement on the club’s website.
Sobhi, who was touted as the next Mohamed Aboutrika at Ahly, scored 24 goals and registered 21 assists in 110 games in all competitions since making his debut as a 16-year-old.
Sobhi’s latest decision hampers Ahly’s transfer ambitions- to strengthen their squad for next season’s CAF Inter Club competitions.
