Mamelodi Sundowns fail to close points gab on Kaizer Chiefs after 1-1 draw against Highlands Park

Mamelodi Sundowns lost a big chance to close the points gab on Kaizer Chiefs in race for this season’s Premier Soccer League title chase, only coming from a goal down to secure a point against Highlands Park on Friday evening.

There was a major boost for the Brazilians having welcomed Gaston Sirino from suspension back into their eleven but it was a shocker when they went down just 6′ minutes into start of the game.

The home side had relied heavily on air balls, and one primarily yielded into their early opener when Shalulile got the better of Downs defense in air inside the 6 yard box. The Highlands forward turned and shot into roof of the net from a tight angle to send his side 1-0 up.

Downs drew level 5 minutes to end of first half after unmarked Mkhulise headed home beautifully from Gaston Sirino’s powerful cross from right edge of the box.

Mosimane’s side with 46points after 24 games still trail leaders Chiefs by three points after failing to beat Highlands Park on Friday.
