Former Ghana U-20 International Ebenezer Assifuah leaving Le Havre next month

Former U-20 Ghanaian International Ebenezer Assifuah is set to leave French Ligue 2 side Le Havre after coach ignoring the Ghanaian striker in his recommendation.

Assifuah has been out of favor at Stade Océane since the arrival of veteran French coach Paul Le Guen in 2019.

Le Guen has always gone in for Jamal Thiaré to lead his attack, sidelining the Ghanaian striker regularly to the bench.

The Ghanaian joined the Ligue 2 side in 2017 after completing a three-and-half year deal from Swiss side FC Sion amid playing in one of Europe’s best leagues.

Assifuah, 26, entered his last period of his contract- which ends June 30- beginning of this season with hopes of attracting contract renewal from Le Havre at the end of the season.

It has been reported that French trainer Le Guen has told his big bosses at the club that he may need a new forward when the summer transfer window opens, with this having much impact on Assifuah’s future at Le Havre.

It understood that Paul Le Guen sees the Ghanaian striker to be out of his plans for next season, setting the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup semifinalist on a high tone to leave as a free man when his contract expires next month.

The 26-year old forward has registered 53 appearances with just 5 goals across all competitions since joining the French second tier side.

Assifuah was part of the Ghana Under-20 national team during the qualification rounds for the 2013 African U-20 Championship. He scored Ghana’s second goal against Uganda in the Championship in October 2012.

Having emerged as a hot prospect at U-20 level, he is capped just once for the Black Stars, and has netted 9 times in 12 games for Ghana U-20 men’s side.
