Maxwell Konadu’s first game ends 3-3 draw against Division One side Asokwa Deportivo as George Abege and Yacouba on target for Kotoko

The Ghana Premier League side were stunned at their own backyard on Thursday afternoon after conceding two late goals to draw with Deportivo at Kotoko training complex.

In what seems the first game for new coach Maxwell Konadu, Songne Yacouba, Ugandan forward George Abege and Justice Blay were on target for Asante Kotoko but Asokwa Deportivo fought back to draw the game 3-3 after 90’ minutes.

Despite being only a friendly, Maxwell Konadu started the game with a strong lineup, Kwame Baah was in posts, guided by Augustine Sefa at right back, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Empem Dacosta in central defense, and Patrick Yeboah at left back.

Alex Didi, Kingsley Effah, Emmanuel Gyamfi and Martin Antwi completed the midfield with Naby Kieta and Songne Yacouba lined up front.

Yacoube strike on the 26’ minute handed Kotoko 1-0 lead at the end of the first half before Justice Blay converted a second half penalty to send Kotoko up by 2-0.

Deportivo who have been a difficult side for Kotoko pull on back later on, however, Ugandan forward George Abege sent Kotoko 3-1 up before a thunderbolt free kick from the Division One side made the game 3-2 along the second half.

Though Kotoko were dominating proceedings after restart with subs Matthew Cudjoe, Salifu Mudasiru, Christopher Nettey and Justice Blay impressing on the afternoon, it was Asokwa Deportivo who scored during the closing stage of the game to draw level 3-3 at Adako Jachie training complex.

This is part of the club’s preparations ahead of the 2019-2020 season as they begin the journey on Sunday against Hearts of Oak in the Presidential Cup before they welcome Techiman Eleven Wonder to the Baba Yara Stadium a week later for their opening game of the Ghana Premier League.
