Kotoko prepared to escape FIFA sanctions as Warriors agree to pay Esperance de Tunis FIFA imposed fine over Clottey transfer
Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have taken a huge step in escaping a potential FIFA sanctions, by now agreeing to pay Esperance de Tunis the fine imposed by FIFA over Emmanuel Clottey transfer five years ago.
FIFA found Emmanuel Clottey guilty of breaching contractual terms with Tunisian side Esperance after signing for a new deal for Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko back in 2015.
The reverse ruling from FIFA in relation to Esperance’s charges was to impose a huge sum of $180,000 as fine on the Ghanaian forward , and Accra High Court have ever tasked Kotoko to pay the fine to the Tunisia giants.
Meanwhile, there is a counter-cross case between Kotoko and Esperance having seen the current CAF Champions League holders completed a $150,000 deal for Kotoko midfielder Kwame Bonsu Conte in last year July.
Esperance want a fair and balanced transaction, and have asked the Ghana Premier League side to subtract Bonsu’s transfer fee ($150,000) from the fine of $180,000 they need to pay the North Africans.
Kotoko sought legal direction from Offside Oku Consult– managed by Ghanaian football administrator Ashford Tetteh Oku- and the Ghana club have finally agreed to pay the fine after the legal advise, which means Kotoko will now release an amount of $30,000 as balance to Esperance to cover up the total $180,000 fine slapped by FIFA back in 2015.
They have till 6th March to communicate back to Esperance-at most pay the $30,000 balance to the North Africa side- in order to avoid be relegated in the Ghana Premier League or face extra huge money fine.
