BREAKING: Zamalek to face sanctions from Egyptian FA after failing to honour Cairo derby against Al Ahly in the Premier League

Zamalek could now live to face the sanctions of Egyptian Football Association (EFA) after the White Knights failed to honour an Egyptian Premier League derby against bitterest rival Al Ahly last Monday at Cairo.

Al Ahly and officiasl to handle the game waited at the Cairo International stadium but the CAF Super Cup champions Zamalek failed to show up before the referee finally called off the game after 30 minutes, awarding Ahly all three points to extend their winning streak to 16 Premier League games.

And the Egyptian FA have now released a statement to sanction and inflict penalties on Zamalek for their actions.

Though the Egyptian Super Cup champions have accounted for their failure to show up for the big game, stating reason of poor weather condition that caused them a delay, the EFA after series of investigations have found different reasons to Zamalek’s actions against the Cairo derby boycott.

The football governing body of Egypt have remained silent on their findings and have decided to impose sanctions on Zamalek, through which they will explain what they also found in relation to their absence to the derby.

Prior to the game against Ahly, Zamalek already looked reluctant to face their rivals when club president Mortada Mansour announced that Zamalek would not face Ahly on 24th this month, and added that his side will not face any points deduction if they don’t play Ahly.

Zamalek now prepare to meet Esperance de Tunis in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League this weekend at Cairo, and the EFA is understood to be considerate and could incur the sanctions right after CAF Champions League first leg tie.
