Chelsea best line-up after Todd Boehly stunning £250m summer transfer spree

Chelsea have invested heavily this summer, giving Thomas Tuchel the tools to deploy some exciting new line-ups at Stamford Bridge. Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei joined earlier before Pierre-Emerick Emiliano and Dennis Zakaria joined on transfer deadline day.

Credit goes to Chairman Todd Boehly after showing little hesitation in his interim role as the club’s sporting director after investing heavily in the club.

Although Chelsea have become accustomed to being one of Europe’s highest spenders in the transfer market since 2003, no Premier League club has ever spent as much as Chelsea did during the summer window of 2022. Around £250m was spent on new additions, some of who will come straight into the first team, whilst others were purchased with an eye to the future.

The window ended with a further two late additions in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona and Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus.

Neither are likely to feature in Saturday afternoon’s clash with West Ham at Stamford Bridge, but with the introduction of Champions League football next Tuesday, Thomas Tuchel will need to use the depth of his squad in a congested schedule, on top of the need for improved performances and results.

Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella have already become established players in the German’s starting line-up following their arrivals, and there is an expectation Wesley Fofana will also follow suit after his £70 million transfer from Leicester City was confirmed on Wednesday.

With the window now shut and the spending spree over, let us take a look at the possible best line-up Tuchel could deploy for Chelsea including his new recruits.

Best Chelsea lineup following transfer deadline day with a majority of new signings involved.

Wesley Fofana joins the right side of Tuchel’s back three, allowing Reece James to maraud down the wing and cause havoc. Kouliably and Cucurella complete the left-side of Chelsea’s defence.

Zakaria looks like he will have a fight on to get in front of his midfield peers when everyone is fit, with Mateo Kovacic likely to recliam his place soon.

Up top, Aubameyang is in a good place to usurp Kai Havertz, who has failed to impress so far, joined by Sterling in a potential attacking duo after the winger netted three goals in his last two appearances.
